Planet Fitness Concord, California: A Comprehensive Review

When considering a gym, many factors come into play, including accessibility, atmosphere, and essential amenities like showers. Planet Fitness in Concord, California, presents an intriguing option for those looking to start or maintain their fitness journey.

Accessibility Features

Planet Fitness Concord features a wheelchair-accessible entrance and a convenient wheelchair-accessible car park. These accommodations ensure that the gym is accessible for everyone, enhancing the overall experience for all members.

Atmosphere and Culture

The atmosphere at this gym is often described as positive and encouraging. Many members appreciate the non-judgmental vibe, allowing individuals to focus on personal goals without fear of being scrutinized. However, numerous reviews mention overcrowding during peak hours, which can disrupt the desired environment. It’s not uncommon for members to encounter long waits for equipment, particularly during busy times.

Cleanliness and Maintenance

Cleanliness appears to be a significant concern among gym-goers. Multiple reviews point out that the locker rooms, especially the men's, are frequently dirty, leading to an unpleasant experience. Issues such as overflowing garbage cans and inadequate cleaning of showers have been highlighted, with some members indicating that these problems have persisted over time. A lack of attention to cleanliness could deter potential customers.

Membership Requirements

A membership is required to access the facilities, with low-cost plans starting around $10/month. However, some members express frustrations regarding hidden fees and difficulties in cancelling memberships. It’s essential to read the fine print carefully to avoid unexpected charges.

Planning Your Visit

If you plan to work out at Planet Fitness Concord, it’s advisable to visit during off-peak hours to avoid the crowds. Early mornings and late evenings tend to be less busy, making it easier to use the equipment you desire without long waits.

Final Thoughts

In conclusion, while Planet Fitness in Concord, California, offers an affordable and accessible gym option with a supportive atmosphere, potential members should consider the cleanliness issues and peak hour overcrowding. It’s a suitable choice for beginners and those seeking a non-intimidating workout environment, but a commitment to cleanliness and equipment availability remains critical for a better overall experience.

I just got meself a membership 'ere and the very next Monday they're closed, no sign on the door 'cept for 24/7. I don't 'ave very many days to go work out, what a waste of time. You can bet I'll be askin' for a refund, mate.
Teresa Patterson (4/14/25, 7:38 PM):
The staff here are just lovely! Although it's not a massive gym, they've got all the essentials covered. Would definitely recommend. Cheers!

I'm here every morning at 6am...most nights after 8pm...plenty of equipment. Staff is always friendly and clean. Great crowd of people as well.
Christopher Graham (4/10/25, 5:50 PM):
This establishment is not tidy, and the staff are lacking in friendliness. I nearly trod in vomit on the changing room floor, and when I informed the lady at the front desk, she simply said "Eww" and left. The vomit remained there for more than an hour. It seems that perhaps it will require a person to slip and break a wrist for the management to provide better training for their employees.
Samuel Clark (4/9/25, 8:53 PM):
I do reckon this establishment has air cooling, which is smashing 'cause my other gym doesn't. Decent variety of gym gear and contraptions, and it feels quite spacious. However, I'm not too chuffed with a couple of things. Firstly, the dumbbells increase in weight by 5 pounds, whereas at my other gym, they increase by 2.5 pounds, which not only makes progression easier but safer too. Secondly, I'm quite gobsmacked that they only have one leg press machine considering how popular it is. The loos are top-notch and pristine, with plenty of showers and lockers available. All in all, I reckon it's a rather swell gym.

Planet fitness is truly a fantastic gym for those who are just starting out, looking to get back into it, or seeking a laid-back gym atmosphere without the intimidation of gym enthusiasts, if you catch my drift. The price point is excellent considering all the services available.
Karen Gutierrez (4/7/25, 6:30 AM):
Whilst there were three staff members at the front desk, none were present among the equipment to enforce the mask mandate. Several individuals were exercising without masks. Given the severity of Covid, this poses a significant health and safety issue.
Virginia Diaz (4/5/25, 5:03 AM):
Planet Fitness is a splendid spot for a solo sweat session or to hit the gym with your chums and kin. The vibe is simply smashing with heaps of positive energy and motivation. They offer a cracking selection of weights including dumbbells, weight benches, and machines galore. You'll find gazelles, treadmills, rowing machines, and even showers for a refreshing post-workout scrub. If you fancy a bit of extra guidance, you can even work out with a personal trainer. It's an absolute gem of a place to whip yourself back into tip-top shape. Cheerio!
Gloria Ramos (4/3/25, 7:25 AM):
Well, I work at the gym, so my review might be seen as a bit biased. It's a fantastic spot for a workout. There's no judgment, and you're always greeted with a smile when you step inside. It's super clean (at least during my shifts). The staff is top-notch.
Matthew Barnes (3/31/25, 6:57 PM):
Always so many people. The layout is awful. The staff are so lazy. The locker rooms are dirty. There are so many lunks everywhere. ALL the machines are worn out or nearly broken.
Lucy Barnes (3/31/25, 3:32 PM):
I absolutely detest this gym. Honestly, it's the most critical gym I have ever trained at. I was bench pressing to my limits, and by mistake, I made a loud noise returning the bar to the rack. The staff immediately sounded the alarm, causing a scene. I felt incredibly embarrassed, it was mortifying. I left hastily and avoided returning for over a year. Now, I refuse to go alone and only enter when accompanied by someone else. If you have the means to workout anywhere else, I highly recommend doing so!
Christopher Gray (3/29/25, 3:40 PM):
Oh my stars and garters, this gym is an absolute horror show! The showers are positively teeming with bacteria, and let me tell you, I caught the staff mopping the shower floors with the very same mop they use for the ENTIRE locker room. Absolutely ghastly! And if that weren't enough, I had the misfortune of encountering two ruffians snapping photos of me on the squat machine. When I brought this to the attention of the staff, they simply advised me to wait for the scoundrels to depart before resuming my workout. Utterly disgraceful! To add insult to injury, my motor carriage was vandalized in the parking lot, and to top it all off, my wallet was pilfered from the locker room. As a distinguished black card member, I am seriously contemplating demanding a refund and taking my custom elsewhere. What an abominable establishment!
Walter Taylor (3/26/25, 5:58 AM):
It’s rather budget-friendly and the location is quite convenient. However, I have a few grievances with it as it happens to be the least favorite out of the 6 I’ve visited.

1) It’s persistently uncomfortably warm regardless of the season. Perhaps it’s just me being prone to feeling hot, but compared to the other locations I've frequented where the temperature is usually kept below 75, this one feels a bit too warm for my liking.

2) The men’s restroom always emits a foul odor no matter the time or day. I understand that Californians may not place high importance on the cleanliness of public facilities, but encountering a urinal filled with gum and a pungent smell is not exactly pleasant, especially when considering the $20 monthly fee.

3) Many individuals seem to linger on their phones while occupying machines indefinitely. For some reason, even during off-peak hours, there’s a high likelihood that most weight machines are occupied with people idly using them for extended periods. Personally, I prefer a quick in-and-out workout style, yet it becomes frustrating when you have to cut your routine short as every machine you plan to use next is taken and remains occupied for 15 minutes. On the other 2 days of my workout rotation, it appears that all cardio machines are consistently in use. In contrast, other gyms I’ve visited tend to have a more balanced distribution of patrons using both weight and cardio equipment.

Having visited 6 different Planet Fitness branches, I must admit that this particular one ranks as the least satisfactory in my experience. While it may be worth the $10 membership fee, it falls short of justifying the $20 price tag.
