Planet Fitness Watertown, NY: A Comprehensive Overview

If you're looking for a gym that combines accessibility with affordability, Planet Fitness in Watertown, NY might be on your radar. Known for its judgement-free atmosphere, this location offers an array of equipment and facilities designed to cater to a diverse clientele.

Accessibility Features

One of the standout features of the Watertown Planet Fitness is its commitment to accessibility. The gym boasts a wheelchair-accessible car park and a wheelchair-accessible entrance, ensuring that all members can enjoy their workout experience comfortably. The layout is designed to facilitate ease of movement throughout the facility, making it a suitable option for those with mobility challenges.

Showers and Cleanliness

The gym also includes showers, which are essential for many members post-workout. While some reviews indicate that the cleanliness of the showers varies, most agree that they are functional and generally acceptable. However, some feedback points towards inconsistent maintenance, with paper towels often running out or showers being reported as less than pristine at times.

Membership Information

A membership is required to access the facilities, making it imperative for prospective members to understand the terms before signing up. Several users have expressed frustration regarding the cancellation policy, with reports of difficulties when attempting to cancel memberships, especially for those moving out of state.

Atmosphere and Community

The atmosphere at Planet Fitness is often described as welcoming and friendly. Many patrons appreciate the community vibe that comes from sharing the space with fellow fitness enthusiasts. However, there have been complaints about noise levels, particularly with some individuals being overly loud during workouts, which can detract from the overall experience.

Planning Your Visit

When planning your visit, it's important to note that the gym's hours have been a point of contention among members. Many have reported instances of the gym not opening on time, especially during weekends. Therefore, you might want to consider calling ahead to confirm operational hours to avoid waiting in a full parking lot, as noted by other frustrated members.

Conclusion

In summary, while Planet Fitness Watertown offers an affordable gym option with accessible features and a variety of equipment, potential members should weigh the pros and cons based on existing reviews. Understanding the membership and cancellation policies, as well as planning visit times carefully, can enhance your experience at this gym.

I'm just wondering, why is it that every day when I go to the gym, there's this bloke who's permitted to shout his lungs out while he's on the treadmill? And then he proceeds to stomp and shout around the gym like nobody's business. Nobody seems to bat an eye, I swear I can hear him clear as day even over my headphones. It's absolutely bonkers!

I attempted to secure a membership at that establishment, but the lady on duty seemed preoccupied chatting with what I presume to be one of her companions. I patiently waited for her to conclude her conversation, and after a wait of nearly 8 minutes, I decided to depart.

If that is how she chooses to interact with prospective members, there is no chance I will entrust my well-earned funds to support someone of her nature.

Instead, I opted to become a member of the YMCA, which excels in providing superior service through their staff.

Everything is brand new and in excellent condition. Impeccably clean and very professional. I revisited recently and truly appreciated the updated equipment. There are multiple avenues to reach your fitness goals. The team was professional and knowledgeable. Fantastic facility. 👍🏻👍🏼👍🏽👍🏾…

Don't bother wasting your time here. I arrived at 6:30 am on a weekday and the gym was closed. The parking lot was full of people waiting. Judging by other reviews, this seems to be a common occurrence. Often the showers are out of order, and the women's bathroom only has two working stalls. It appears that the manager or owner is not too concerned, as these issues persist. Personally, I would prefer to pay a higher fee for a gym with reliable hours and facilities that are in good working order.
Andrew Evans (4/18/25, 11:25 AM):
Aye, this gym is a great find for those on a budget. However, I'd recommend showing some love to the YMCA... just sharing my two cents. Ultimately, just get your workout in wherever works for you, mate. Cheers!

I was dreadfully let down by the lack of guidance and assistance from the staff. I phoned in and the trainer initially informed me that she was leaving and not taking new appointments, but advised me to come in and she would assist me. I arrived at the agreed-upon time, only to find that she had no recollection of our conversation two days prior. Shortly thereafter, they started taking appointments again until she left (same trainer), and I managed to secure one. However, upon arriving at the scheduled time, she stood me up because she had been promoted to a different position. There was no courtesy call to cancel, and when questioned, she mentioned that she had been promoted the day before my appointment and was too occupied to notify me. I inquired if she could at least provide advice on which machines might be gentler on certain joints since we hadn't met, but she stated it was beyond her new job scope and added that staff couldn't respond to such inquiries due to gym liability concerns. Ultimately, I decided to terminate my membership.

I popped in to inquire about membership details and info and whatnot. There was this bloke who seemed to fancy himself quite the charmer, spending his entire time chatting up the lass behind the front desk instead of helping me out. All I wanted was a swift peek around the gym and locker rooms. The lady at the counter mentioned she couldn't leave her post, but I was free to wander and suss things out on my own. This chap just wouldn't quit, blabbing on and on, offering to give me the grand tour—I half expected him to try and tag along into the women's locker room, for crying out loud.

In the end, I decided to go with a membership at the Y instead— the staff there are much friendlier, far more attentive, and a female member even took the time to show me around and answer all my questions. She even helped me pick out a decent locker.

On top of that, the Y has a sauna...

This is the 3rd or 4th Sunday that Planet Fitness has not been opening on time in the morning. Their sign indicates that they are supposed to be open from 7 am to 7 pm. It is now 7:45 am on Sunday, and the gym is still closed with nobody inside. There is a parking lot full of waiting customers, but not a single staff member has arrived to open the gym. This situation is quite frustrating as it is my only opportunity to work out before heading to work, and I often don't make it in time before they close early. Other disgruntled individuals have also left notes on their door on Sundays regarding the poor time management.
Russell Russell (4/13/25, 6:07 PM):
I must say, I am terribly let down by the new gym spot at the mall. The fresh area is quite petite and tight. The machinery is all squished together, leaving hardly any room to stretch on the floor. Moreover, the equipment isn't new at all. It's the same old faulty gear that never seems to get mended from the original place. The staff can often be spotted behind the front desk playing on their phones when they should be busy cleaning the dusty gear and locker rooms. It seems the novel locale doesn't have air conditioning either? With the warmer weather now here, the gym has been excessively hot and emitting a putrid odor most days. I truly wish there was another reasonably priced gym nearby to switch to instead of this one.
Emma Howard (4/11/25, 9:30 AM):
Honestly, the gym is quite splendid with a plethora of equipment, yet the operational hours are utterly dreadful. They close rather early on the weekends, and the gym personnel tends to hustle you out quite promptly. Should you labor on the weekends, then best of luck fitting in a workout.
Alan Hill (4/9/25, 8:35 AM):
They frequently run low on paper towels and it's nearly impossible to cancel your membership here, so if you do decide to sign up, make sure to cancel before relocating out of state.

My membership didn't transfer to a different state despite informing them beforehand, yet they continued to charge me.

Despite sending a letter days prior to the monthly auto payment, the charges are still going through, but my bank will handle it.
