Old school jiu jitsu is a real gem in Kirksville. Coach Jake has fashioned a welcoming environment for folks to pick up jiu jitsu skills and forge strong friendships! Embarking on a martial arts journey as a lady can be rather daunting, but the old school crew really excels at making you feel at ease. If you've got even a hint of curiosity, I highly recommend giving it a whirl!

A jolly good spot for training, I must say! The chaps there were ever so friendly and welcoming. The mats were spick and span, which I always take note of when I'm training outside me own gym. I highly recommend popping in if you're in the vicinity. Cheers!

My missus and I are blue belts from another gym who popped in for a class while on holiday. The gym was spotless, the instructors were friendly and supportive, and the sparring sessions were top-notch. Coaches provide excellent guidance while also making sure the workout is beneficial for all participants. If we lived close by, it would be a joy to train at Old School Jiu-Jitsu.

I recently attended a women's self-defense class for a couple of weeks, and I must say, it was a fantastic experience! Jake did a splendid job teaching and was incredibly patient with me, especially as a novice. I wholeheartedly suggest this class to anyone interested in exploring the realm of Jiu Jitsu and self-defense techniques.

I can't recommend this place highly enough! Old School Jiu Jitsu is a fantastic training ground! Coach Jake and the whole team at Old School are incredibly welcoming and skilled instructors. I've trained at several gyms prior to joining here, and I've never received as much personalized attention to my technique as I have at Old School. Whether you're a seasoned martial artist or a complete beginner, this is the place to be!

They work bloomin' well with those new to jiu jitsu. I was welcomed by everybody from instructors to others taking the class. This is a spot-on environment for not only beginners but those who have experience. No one comes in with an ego and everyone wants every person in the gym to get better. 10/10 would recommend anyone who has experience or wants to start jiu jitsu. Brilliant!

I popped into this dojo while on a business trip. The first thing that caught my eye was the incredibly polished website, making it a breeze to locate class schedules and contact details - a rarity in the world of Jiu Jitsu schools. The facility was spotless and the atmosphere welcoming. I had some intense sparring sessions and was impressed by the composure displayed by even the white belts during live rolls. Can't wait to return!
Zachary Ortiz (5/20/25, 6:51 AM):
Old School is truly a warm and inviting establishment where ANYONE can come to train. I had absolutely no prior experience in the world of martial arts or physical activities. Coach Jake and his team excel in their craft and are exceptionally kind individuals. Jiu jitsu has now become a significant aspect of my daily life. If you are contemplating beginning your martial arts journey, don't hesitate—just come on down! The women's class is a wonderful starting point, especially for those who may be feeling a bit apprehensive like I was :)
