Discovering the Student Recreation Center in Kirksville, Missouri

The Student Recreation Center (SRC) at Truman State University is a hub of activity for students and staff alike. With an array of amenities and engaging programs, it serves as an essential part of campus life.

Accessibility Features

One of the standout aspects of the SRC is its commitment to accessibility. The facility boasts a wheelchair-accessible car park, ensuring easy access for all individuals. Additionally, the wheelchair-accessible entrance welcomes everyone into the center, making it inclusive for all members of the community.

A Range of Amenities

The SRC offers a variety of amenities designed to cater to different fitness levels and preferences. Visitors can enjoy numerous treadmills and other aerobic machines for cardio workouts. However, it's worth noting that some patrons have mentioned a horrible lack of variety of workout equipment and not enough squat racks to accommodate the needs of all users.

Facility Highlights

The center features a spacious gym and specialized rooms, such as the blue room that is ideal for classes. There are also various group fitness classes offered, which are highly appreciated by students. Although some users feel the weekend hours are restrictive, the overall accessibility during weekdays is commendable, especially before peak hours from 3-7 PM.

Room for Improvement

Despite its many advantages, there are areas where the SRC could enhance the experience. Critics point out the enforced dress code that requires t-shirts and closed-toe shoes, even during specific exercises like deadlifting. Additionally, some patrons would like to see the ban on Olympic lifting reconsidered, as it limits advanced training options.

Conclusion

Overall, the Student Recreation Center in Kirksville, Missouri, provides a solid venue for fitness and recreation. While there are improvements to be made regarding equipment variety and operational hours, its cost-effective nature – included in housing fees – makes it an appealing choice for students looking to stay active. Whether you're a casual gym-goer or someone who takes fitness seriously, the SRC offers a friendly and accommodating environment for everyone.

Melissa Price (4/9/25, 5:05 PM):
Cons:
Dreadful lack of workout equipment variety
Inadequate squat racks availability (still)
Mandatory t-shirt wearing rule (even cut-offs and muscle tees are forbidden)
Compulsory shoe-wearing policy (even during deadlifts)
Ban on Olympic lifting
Limited workout space
Continuous playing of teen pop music over the speakers

Pros:
Its cost is covered in your housing fees, making it essentially free.
Decent hours except for weekends, which have restrictive timings.
That's about it.

The Rec has a ton of fantastic gear and loads of treadmills and other aerobic machines! They also offer some brilliant classes and a generous gym space and blue room.
