Shanty Creek Resort Fitness Center: A Comprehensive Overview

Located in the picturesque Bellaire, Michigan, the Shanty Creek Resort Fitness Center offers a unique blend of amenities for those looking to stay fit during their stay. However, prospective visitors should weigh the center’s advantages against some of its drawbacks.

Children's Accessibility

The fitness center is typically not recommended for children, as there are specific restrictions in place. Although staff members have allowed children aged 8-10 to sit on benches while parents work out, the environment might not be ideal for a family outing. Parents considering a visit with kids should keep this in mind.

Accessibility Features

On a positive note, accessibility is a key consideration at the Shanty Creek Resort Fitness Center. Facilities include:

  • Wheelchair-accessible car park
  • Wheelchair-accessible entrance
  • Wheelchair-accessible toilet

These features make it easier for individuals with mobility challenges to navigate the center, though feedback suggests that additional improvements could enhance the overall experience.

Amenities and Facilities

The gym includes various amenities, such as:

  • A sauna and hot tub for relaxation
  • A cardio area with ample space
  • Limited weight training equipment

However, many users have voiced concerns regarding the condition and maintenance of the equipment. Reports of outdated machines, broken mirrors, and cleanliness issues have been frequent, indicating a need for substantial upgrades and consistent upkeep.

Customer Experience

Reviews reveal a mixed customer experience at the Shanty Creek Resort Fitness Center. While some visitors have praised the friendly staff and enjoyed their workouts, others have reported negative interactions. Comments regarding treatment by staff and management have surfaced, highlighting a lack of respect for non-hotel guests and inconsistent service during staffed hours.

Final Thoughts

For those considering a visit to the Shanty Creek Resort Fitness Center, it’s essential to weigh the center’s unique features against its shortcomings. While accessibility options are commendable and the staff is generally friendly, potential visitors may want to look elsewhere if they seek modern equipment and a higher standard of facilities. Always remember to check the latest reviews and possibly tour the facility before committing to a membership.

Linda Kim (6/5/25, 2:16 AM):
The spa has both a sauna and a hot tub, which is quite pleasant!

However, the gym equipment seems to be quite dated, approximately 60 years old. Due to its instability and the feeling that it may break at any moment, I am only able to give it 3 stars. The mirrors are cracked, and there's a leak in the ceiling dripping into a bucket. Quite a comical situation!

On the bright side, the staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating. They enforce a no-kids policy, but they kindly allowed my children, aged 8-10, to sit on the bench while I worked out. For this gesture, I would rate them 4 stars!

I do wonder why all gyms don't offer a designated area where parents can bring their children to read or have a safe space.

As for the showers and bathrooms, they remind me of a 1980s KOA campground - not the best, but not the worst either; just below average to average.

At $56 a month, I find it quite expensive considering the outdated equipment and facilities.
