I absolutely adore the gym, especially since the refurbishment. The locker rooms are top-notch and they offer a wide array of amenities. My only gripe is that I do wish the free weight section could be tripled in size. Despite the expansion during the remodeling, it remains way too cramped when it gets busy. But overall, it's a fantastic place to work out.

I had a truly seamless experience re-enrolling with MJ. She is truly a valuable addition to the team.

I would strongly advise against joining the sports club in Walnut Creek!
Despite the high membership fees, the amenities are severely lacking. For instance, there are no towels provided in the dressing rooms – you have to beg for one at the front desk. It's a complete mess! I recently had a pregnant member ask me to fetch her a towel as she was too embarrassed to go to the front desk in her swimsuit. The towels they do provide are of poor quality, worse than those found in a Motel 6. I'm a member of other Bay Clubs and can confidently say that Walnut Creek is the only one with such subpar towels!

The weight machines are constantly breaking down, the showers have drainage issues, and there are often hairballs and stains on the floors and walls. Plus, there are no shelves in the shower cabins to hold your hygiene products. If you want a better experience, head to Fremont – they have large showers with useful shelves and luxurious, unlimited fluffy towels.

To top it off, there's a new policy where club members can only use the facilities for 3 hours before incurring a parking fee. It feels like we're being punished just for being members here! Other clubs in the East Bay area don't charge for parking. Why can't they install a scanner with barcodes for members to park for free, similar to how we use them to enter the club?
Kathleen Alexander (3/23/25, 6:52 PM):
I would definitely sign up for a membership if my favorite dance instructor Grace offered more than one class at this sports club. Right now, I have to travel and pay significantly more to attend another club where she teaches multiple classes.
Austin Patterson (3/23/25, 2:18 AM):
The cancellation occurred due to several reasons. Firstly, there is now a requirement to request towels from the front desk rather than finding them folded on a rack in the locker room, leading to potential theft if left unattended outside of the shower or on a bench in the sauna/steam room. Is this level of service worth the monthly fee of $180+?

The gym has become consistently overcrowded, particularly since the introduction of the 6 person membership. This influx of members has exceeded the club's capacity in terms of equipment and space, exacerbated by the fact that amenities are shared with hotel guests.

Cancellation processes are too prompt and lack any inquiry into why members are leaving, creating an impression that management may be testing boundaries given the current issues with towel availability.

The club's environment is compromised by the presence of transient hotel guests who do not adhere to gym etiquette, diminishing the sense of community among regular members.

Rates increase every six months despite ongoing issues such as unavailable facilities like the jacuzzi or pool. Moreover, maintenance concerns persist, as evidenced by long-standing red stains in the sauna that are seemingly ignored.

While promotional pictures depict an idealized setting, the reality differs as many areas are frequently out of order and restrictions on phone use are enforced inconsistently. Interested individuals are encouraged to visit and experience these conditions firsthand.
Nicole Morales (3/22/25, 5:59 PM):
My family and I popped by the Renaissance Hotel in Walnut Creek over Christmas. The hotel's guests are able to utilize the Bay Club gym, so one fine morning, I made my way up to sweat it out and brought my 9-year-old son along. He wasn't planning to hit the weights, just keeping me company and having a chat as I got my workout in.

No issues arose when we checked in at the front desk; no one mentioned anything about my son not being permitted. However, before I could start my fitness session, a staff member named Fernando approached us. He was rather gruff and right in front of my son uttered, "There's no way he is 12." He insisted my son couldn't be in the gym and we needed to vacate the premises.

I can't fathom why he opted to be so combative about it. He didn't even extend a simple greeting or introduce himself, and insinuated that I had fibbed about my son's age? A more tactful approach would have been preferable. Moreover, there was no mention of any restrictions when we checked in at the front desk. I enquired with Fernando about where my son could hang out, and he replied, "In the lobby, but mustn't be unsupervised." It strikes me as odd that they permitted him entry into the gym only to then decree he couldn't be anywhere inside.

To compound matters, the Bay Club appears to turn a blind eye to other regulations. I observed numerous individuals stepping into the sauna fully clothed and wearing shoes! It was evident they hadn't showered beforehand, which also goes against the rules. Furthermore, people were constantly on their cell phones in the locker room, despite signs indicating this was prohibited.

It appears as though they selectively enforce rules, and I felt rather unwelcome as a result. It's disconcerting that they seem indifferent towards basic hygiene practices, such as showering prior to utilizing the sauna/steam room/whirlpool.

The Bay Club ought to coach their staff on the importance of amiability and treating all patrons equitably. They should also ensure adherence to the rules so that everyone can feel at ease and secure. Until these improvements are made, I wouldn't recommend this gym to anyone.
