I reckon it's a pretty pleasant gym atmosphere. Yet, I found meself questioned or doubted by a couple of staff during me visits. I requested to chat with the manager, who was too busy workin' out, which sort of shed light on the absence of staff leadership, diversity, and inclusion in their interactions with us high-paying customers. Who forks over their coin just to feel uneasy, aye?
I used to work for Equinox on Columbus Avenue NYC so I view this through a different lens. For WDC standards, the gym has what I need. My husband and I are very happy. I’m also a personal trainer so I take note to every detail. They are still new so be patient. It was a rocky start with WiFi at first but that’s fixed. I found if you have any ideas or concerns, tell the manager. I have ideas that would improve. He’s very open and will listen to you. I asked for small hand towels. I don’t like carrying a large towel throughout my workout.
Good use of space. Clean and a very friendly crowd. Since I changed gyms, my workouts have felt amazing.
The staff at this fitness center are incredibly welcoming and the facility itself is quite impressive, complete with locker rooms that feature a sauna. Although cell service may be lacking due to the basement location, the high ceilings and ample space differentiate it from other gyms in DC, creating an environment that doesn't feel like a typical basement setting. Additionally, this gym boasts the highest number of Olympic lifting/squat racks I have encountered in the city, making it a top choice for individuals focused on strength and functional fitness, especially considering its affordability.
More towels are needed! Apart from that, it's a fantastic gym.
I've been coming here since they opened a couple of months ago. The equipment is top-notch, the staff is super friendly, and the facility is consistently clean.
My main gripe is with the towels - for the past 3 weeks, every Tuesday morning, they've run out of towels. I like to get ready for work at the gym, and I can't carry around a damp towel in my gym bag all day, so this has become an issue. I've had to dry off with my gym hoodie after my shower. The fact that it's always on a Tuesday, and the problem has persisted for 3 weeks, suggests that they may not be receiving enough towel deliveries. It would be ideal if they could arrange for two or more towel deliveries per week instead of just one.
I was really hoping this gym would be a good fit since it’s closer to my place, but it's missing a few key things.
On the upside, the gym is well lit, has working WiFi (which is essential since there's no cell service), and is clean and not too crowded when I visited. The parking garage was easy to navigate, and the locker room had simple-to-use locks, though it was a bit small and smelled like an old Abercrombie store. The staff and GM were all super friendly too.
On the downside, they don't have barbell plates lighter than 5lbs, which can be a drawback for exercises like overhead press or PR attempts. It would be great if they could stock some 2.5lb and change plates. I also didn’t see any boxes for exercises like DB step-ups or kettlebells heavier than 50lbs.
I understand it's their first week, so hopefully, they'll add more equipment soon. Overall, it's not bad and could be useful for the average gym-goer. There's plenty of space for turf workouts with some DB step-up boxes, and adding smaller plates should be an easy fix.
The setup is absolutely splendid for those keen to zero in on their workout - and who appreciate a touch of subdued lighting. The equipment is truly top-notch, and the trainers have imparted so much valuable knowledge to me. The turf area is a blast for experimenting with fresh routines! It's not at all daunting, and the staff are unfailingly friendly and readily available.
Great place. Parking is a breeze. It's a tad smaller than what I'm accustomed to, but it's got all the essentials. The cable machines could benefit from additional accessories and perhaps an accessory rack similar to what you'd find at onelife.
All in all, awesome gym. Just keep in mind that the locker room and changing area are pretty cozy.
Absolutely adore this fitness center.
Aye, the gym may be wee and aye, it has limited gear. Nevertheless, it does carry all the essentials I require and I have not encountered any issues where the machines or weights I seek are occupied. I'll keep ye posted if that changes...
The turf area could certainly be reduced in size and more cardio equipment added, but truth be told, the Northeast was in dire need of a gym and this spot is right in the middle with all the basics covered. No grievances from me end so far!
Absolutely smashing staff, I must say! I popped in for a spot of work and they were ever so hospitable. The gym boasts some top-notch gear, truly the bee's knees in my book.
I am currently a member of Onelife and was searching for a gym closer to my place on 14th St NW. I came in today for a guest pass and was immediately interrogated by the older bald gentleman (not sure if he's a manager) about my Maryland ID. He insisted I show proof of address to verify that I'm not trying to deceive them for a day pass (which costs ONLY $30 lol). Even though my previous MD address is only a 13-minute drive from the gym, he was very suspicious. I decided to forget the guest pass and wait for my friend, who is a member, to bring me in as his guest. The gentleman then kept a close eye on us, checking if my friend was allowed to bring guests. It felt strange being treated like potential scammers, especially as young Black men. I'm pretty sure he doesn't treat everyone this way. His intensity was uncalled for. Needless to say, I will not be signing up and will stick with OneLife instead. However, the girl at the front desk was fantastic and provided excellent customer service. She deserves a raise!
I actually quite enjoy the gym and its amenities. It's situated in a prime location with convenient parking, but I can foresee it becoming overcrowded in the future.
When I was signing up, I was informed that I could bring a guest, a fact I double-checked last week with various staff members at the gym. My girlfriend is currently visiting me, and when I brought her in, this chap Bobby insisted that I pay either $60 per week or $30 per day for her access. The other employees on shift at the time were unaware of this policy, and Bobby did not take any responsibility for the misinformation. It's a poor sales tactic and reflects badly on the establishment. I will now be keeping an eye out for another gym.
I had a rather unpleasant experience when visiting the gym for the first time, mainly due to Bobby, the guest service manager. I would advise trying out an LA Fitness instead. He seemed more interested in his phone than assisting at the front desk. Even when the front desk staff were helping us get signed up for a guest pass, he interrupted with a requirement we weren't aware of, claiming we needed to show a bill before working out. It's worth noting that he was engrossed in his phone during the entire process. Save yourself the trouble and look elsewhere for a gym!
All in all, a jolly good gym, I must say. The chaps on staff are rather friendly, the selection of equipment is top-notch, and there's a splendid potential for a smashing leg day workout. The contraptions are simply fantastic, and the layout is ever so cleverly designed for the space available.
However, the gym does tend to be a tad cramped during peak hours. One should prepare for a bit of a wait for a locker in the gentlemen's changing quarters. Surprisingly, there seems to be a bit of a scarcity when it comes to cardio machines. The location is quite splendid, but it may be best to pop in during the gym's quieter moments. Let's hope they add more lockers soon, as it's rather unacceptable to have to wait for one to become available. Cheers!
