This gym is simply smashing! As a desk jockey with a laundry list of injuries and less strength and coordination than most, I was feeling rather hopeless. But fear not, for Ryan, Shawn, and Sharon have been absolute gems in tailoring workouts to suit my needs and help me build strength to conquer these hurdles. Their sensitivity and encouragement make each session a jolly good time!

I must say, I am absolutely thrilled to have stumbled upon this fantastic gym! My journey began approximately 2 years ago when I decided to join Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes at this gym, and from that moment on, I have been captivated by the sport. While I had no prior experience in BJJ, I was fortunate to find Shawn, one of the gym's owners and BJJ coaches, to be a welcoming and patient instructor who was eager to share the art of grappling with others. The atmosphere she has cultivated is incredibly inclusive and fosters a sense of community rather than just a typical gym setting.

Though my knowledge of other BJJ gyms may be limited as I haven't trained elsewhere regularly, I can confidently say that FEF offers a unique experience. Firstly, it is a small, independent gym that prioritizes camaraderie over politics. We frequently engage in training sessions with Shawn and the other coaches, and are even encouraged to explore opportunities at different gyms. The addition of Sambo and wrestling classes gives the gym a more holistic approach to grappling, going beyond just BJJ. We focus on takedowns, leg locks, and are challenged to integrate Jiu Jitsu with other grappling styles. Furthermore, the supplementary classes complement BJJ exceptionally well. Judy and Mollii, both Jiu Jitsu black belts, lead conditioning classes that have notably enhanced my strength and flexibility. Judy's "Burn It to the Ground!" class, which heavily incorporates kettlebells and HIIT, leaves me feeling like jelly in the best way possible. Meanwhile, Mollii's Ginastica Natural class is a unique blend of yoga, Jiu Jitsu, and conditioning, emphasizing natural movements using only body weight. It, too, renders me feeling like jelly, but in the most gratifying manner.

In sum, this gym is truly exceptional; it feels like a second home. It consistently challenges me to surpass my limits and has introduced me to remarkable individuals whom I am privileged to call friends. I now eagerly anticipate my gym sessions, a sentiment I never imagined I would hold. :P
