Joe Nelson (5/8/25, 7:34 PM):
YTMA is a truly exceptional martial arts school specializing in taijutsu. The environment is professional, clean, and above all, safe for training. Having practiced martial arts for over a decade and instructed law enforcement and military personnel in Yakima, I can attest that YTMA stands out as one of the most professional and secure training facilities I have experienced. Under the guidance of a highly respected Green Beret instructor with ties to Ft. Bragg's special operations community, the teachings at YTMA are truly remarkable.

It is important to address misconceptions about the school's attitude towards individuals with autism or special needs. Contrary to rumors, the instructors at YTMA have a deep respect for all students, regardless of their individual circumstances. Taijutsu is a discipline rooted in ancient weaponry and specialized combat techniques, designed for covert missions and security operations. While it may initially seem like playful sword-fighting with foam weapons, the skills taught possess lethal applications, especially at advanced levels of training.

Children begin their training with foam weapons before progressing to wooden and, eventually, dulled steel weapons. Even training with foam or wooden weapons carries the risk of serious injury if not handled properly. Taijutsu demands discipline, character, mental and physical health, and a commitment to progression. It is not a martial art suited for everyone, and even some fully capable adults may not meet its rigorous requirements.

I want to emphasize that my admiration for YTMA is sincere and comes from a place of high standards for professional martial arts instruction. As someone with a background in behavioral and neurobiological sciences, and experience working with individuals on the autism spectrum, I hold the utmost respect for inclusivity and understanding. YTMA is truly a special place that upholds the values of professionalism and excellence in martial arts education.

For more than a year now, Yakima Taijutsu Martial Arts has truly become a crucial part of my life. The dojo's layout and the martial arts being taught have left a lasting impact on me. The instructors have crafted a program that prioritizes safety above all else. I appreciate that this dojo doesn't focus solely on winning tournaments; instead, it emphasizes making the world a safer place. As a new student, you are immediately taught how to defend yourself and escape potentially dangerous situations. Every step, every belt is earned through hard work; there are no shortcuts here. The expectations are high, but they are necessary because in real-life scenarios, there are no second chances. Despite the high standards, the instructors and fellow students are always ready to assist with any challenges and provide incredible support. This isn't just a dojo; it's a tight-knit community of individuals who are passionate about what they do. Their dedication to their craft and to their students is evident in the way they conduct classes and in the very essence of the dojo itself. I am honored to be a part of Yakima Taijutsu.

Would highly recommend this place! The staff is extremely professional and really takes the time to connect with all the students. They are always looking for new ways to prepare people for any situation. I hear they are also launching a new tactical program soon, can't wait to see what they have in store!
Amy Anderson (4/30/25, 12:27 PM):
My little ones have been attending this martial arts school since September 2016 and they truly adore the experience! The team here is exceptional, with a genuine passion for their craft and a knack for passing it on to the children. It's not just about mastering an art form; the classes also focus on important life skills like determination, goal-setting, collaboration, and self-control. We are absolutely thrilled to have discovered this place for our kids, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to other parents looking to enroll their little ones in martial arts training.
