A Comprehensive Overview of Abrams Physical Fitness Center

The Abrams Physical Fitness Center located in Fort Cavazos, TX, is a well-known facility amongst local fitness enthusiasts. Here, we'll explore the various amenities offered by the gym and what you can expect when you visit.

Amenities That Cater to All Fitness Levels

One of the standout features of Abrams is its spacious basketball court, perfect for those looking to engage in team sports or simply shoot some hoops. Additionally, the center boasts a swimming pool that is highly praised for its cleanliness and maintenance, allowing members to swim year-round. For convenience and comfort, the facility offers showers and generous locker room space, making it easy for gym-goers to freshen up after their workouts. Furthermore, there are two co-ed saunas; just a reminder to bring your shower shoes!

Atmosphere and Accessibility

The overall atmosphere of Abrams is described as friendly and welcoming. Many users appreciate the professional staff who help create a community-oriented environment. The gym is designed with accessibility in mind, with a wheelchair-accessible entrance and car park, ensuring that facilities are available for everyone. However, several comments suggest that certain areas, such as the weight room, might feel cramped during peak hours, which can detract from the overall experience.

Room for Improvement

While the amenities are commendable, some patrons point out that the weight room is relatively small and may lack a comprehensive selection of free weights. With only a few squat racks and limited space for dumbbells, those focused on heavy lifting may find alternatives necessary. Additionally, feedback regarding the basketball court has indicated that maintenance could be more attentive, with concerns over the court's surface condition and overall upkeep. Some users have noted that the court is occasionally repurposed for events like COVID-19 vaccinations, which can affect regular usage.

Final Thoughts

In conclusion, the Abrams Physical Fitness Center is an excellent choice for family-friendly fitness, offering diverse amenities such as a swimming pool, saunas, and a basketball court. While improvements could be made to the weight equipment and maintenance routines, the overall atmosphere and accessibility make it a convenient option for many in the Fort Cavazos area. Whether you're looking to swim, play basketball, or enjoy a sauna, Abrams has something to offer.

Clean, loads of top-notch facilities. They provide classes for a small fee. My personal favorite is the 1200-1300 spin class. The gym boasts 2 cardio rooms, 2 coed saunas, and even a weight room - although I didn't explore that section as it's not my cup of tea. Conveniently located, indeed.
Chloe Butler (3/31/25, 9:52 AM):
It took me a good 20 minutes to kick off my workout, not because the gym was bustling, but due to the scarcity of equipment. Not the best experience! 🙁
Nicholas Sanders (3/31/25, 5:21 AM):
I ain't a fan of this gym, mate. Every time I step into the weight room, it's like a bloomin' boys' club in there. And if you're a lass wanting to pump some iron, everyone's givin' you the ol' side-eye. Proper annoying, it is. And to top it off, I had a dodgy experience with the staff the other day! I fancied a game of basketball, so I asks the front desk if I can borrow a ball. I spy one on the rack and a whole basket full of 'em at the back. I'm a white bird and the fella workin' there happened to be black. He tells me all the balls are taken. Blatant lie, 'cos I could see at least one still available. I pop out for a bit, come back, and what do I see? He offers the last ball on the rack to another black bloke. That's when it hit me that he was bein' racist towards me! This gym is on a military base, for crying out loud! If the Army bangs on about equality between races, I sure as hell didn't feel it there! Ain't ever goin' back!
Cynthia Morales (3/31/25, 1:25 AM):
Abrams boasts 3 Basketball courts, 3 Racquetball courts, 2 unisex Saunas, 4 cardiovascular rooms, a free weight room, x-fit room, and a 25m Swimming pool. The weight room can get a bit narrow and crowded at times. They offer a decent amount of Nautilus Equipment and Cardiovascular Equipment spread out in separate rooms. If you prefer not to be in a large open space where you can easily be seen, Abrams is a good fit for you as well.
Gerald Gonzales (3/30/25, 2:13 PM):
It took me a good 20 minutes to actually kick off my workout, not due to the gym being packed, but on account of the insufficient equipment. Quite disappointing, I must say!
Beverly Wright (3/30/25, 1:22 AM):
I've spent countless days at the field house in the mid-70s swimming, working out, and unwinding. It's a fantastic spot.
Douglas Kim (3/29/25, 8:36 PM):
This gym is quite good for swimming and basketball. It lacks ample space for dumbbells and only has around 4 squat racks from what I've observed. However, they do boast a spacious room dedicated to machines.
Mark Jordan (3/29/25, 6:45 PM):
I strolled in and was assisted right away. The showers & facility were spotless and well-maintained. Not too packed for this time of day.
Sarah Kim (3/28/25, 2:33 PM):
The basketball courts doin' double duty as Covid-19 vaccine centers for Pfizer shots. Top-notch professionalism and organization, mate. Seatin' arrangements are spaced out for social distancin' and the staff are absolutely top class. Can't recommend it highly enough. They make gettin' the jab a breeze. No excuse not to roll up your sleeves, especially when they make it so blimin' convenient and hassle-free. Cheers! Wasn't expectin' it to be this smooth and well-planned. 👏👏👏
Gabriel Walker (3/28/25, 8:40 AM):
Fantastic establishment. Properly spacious. Wide range of equipment. Operating swimming pool.
Patricia Brown (3/28/25, 2:47 AM):
I ain't a fan of this gym at all. Every time I step into the weight room it feels like it's a man's world in there. All eyes on you if you're a lady tryna pump some iron. It gets on my nerves, ya know? And the other day, I had to deal with some discrimination from the staff! I wanted to shoot some hoops, so I asked the dude at the front desk if I could borrow a basketball. There was one on the rack and a whole basket full of 'em in the back. I'm a white woman, and the guy behind the counter happened to be black. He straight up said no, claimin' they were all taken. I could clearly see one ball just sittin' there on the rack. I left for a bit and when I came back, I saw him offer that last ball on the rack to another black fella. That's when it hit me - he was showin' me some racism! This is a gym on a military base, for cryin' out loud! If the Army preaches equality between races, I sure didn't feel it there! Ain't ever gonna set foot in that place again!
Sean Simmons (3/28/25, 12:06 AM):
Back in the Air Force, I was fortunate to have a Family Room where I could exercise while keeping an eye on my kids. But now, as an Army Dependapotomus, I miss having that setup. *shrugs*
Peter Jenkins (3/27/25, 2:22 PM):
At the moment, it is being utilized for COVID-19 vaccinations. Overall, it's a splendid spot for exercising.
Edward Patterson (3/27/25, 1:36 PM):
There's a fair selection of cardio gear, but a bit lacking in terms of free weights. The space is not particularly roomy.
Evelyn King (3/26/25, 9:37 AM):
I used to go to the old gym location, but we recently visited the new one when my brother-in-law's unit returned from deployment. It's massive and spotless!
Julie Jones (3/26/25, 2:42 AM):
A 4-star rating overall. Almost a 5, but the absence of free weights makes it a less appealing spot for the true Iron Addicts (think CT Fletcher). A+ on everything else.
Gabriel Nelson (3/25/25, 9:07 PM):
Kindly update the gym's hours. This gym closes at 8 pm. I'm baffled as to why gyms shut down so early. Additionally, they could benefit from a larger weight room with a greater variety of machines. The staff's demeanor leaves much to be desired, especially towards non-male patrons.
Emma James (3/25/25, 8:11 AM):
I cannot believe the pool costs money to use! This is the first gym I've been to where service members have to pay to use the pool. If swimming is your go-to workout, this could end up being quite costly for you!
Stephen Green (3/24/25, 8:06 PM):
The weightroom is rather petite...lacks some essential gear...limited room for deadlifts or any olympic lifts....but it does boast a pool...
David Barnes (3/24/25, 4:05 PM):
Terrific establishment. The lifeguards keep a close eye and the pool is a fantastic spot for getting a workout in.
