LA Fitness surely remains the most dreadful gym imaginable, I must say!
To start with, they have this habit of cancelling classes without any prior notice. It's been four times just this past week alone, can you believe it?
And to make matters worse, they don't even bother to let you know through the app when a class is cancelled. So there you are, driving all the way to the gym, only to find no instructor in sight. It's a massive waste of your time and gas money, if you ask me.
Then there's the issue of instructors showing up late and wrapping up classes earlier than scheduled. Instead of a full hour, you end up with a mere 40-45 minutes. It's quite frustrating, isn't it?
And let's not forget about the trainers who seem to lack proper training themselves. Some Zumba instructors just don't seem to know what they're doing. I suspect they aren't even certified! There are only a handful of good instructors, and even fewer who keep up with the latest Zumba songs and routines. Missing out on that fun is truly disappointing.
The timing of the classes is another sore point. Offering Zumba at 5:45 p.m. three nights a week doesn't make sense for working professionals. It's no surprise that those classes are poorly attended. The 7 p.m. slots are much better, but sadly, they're only available twice a week.
And don't get me started on the unhelpful Front Desk staff. They seem clueless when asked about instructor whereabouts or the lack of app notifications. Isn't that their job? One of them even claimed they couldn't contact the instructors because LA Fitness doesn't employ them. How absurd is that?
To top it all off, things in the gym are often broken. From malfunctioning AC to closed saunas and low water pressure in the bathrooms, the list is endless.
Paying $13 more than Crunch Fitness for such poor service is just outrageous. In my two years at Crunch, I experienced just one class cancellation due to a genuine reason. If an instructor was running late, they'd make sure to extend the class to compensate for the lost time.
Save yourself the trouble and money by avoiding LA Fitness if classes are your thing.
(If LA Fitness Lanham, Bowie, and Upper Marlboro were wise, they'd schedule Zumba with Joy, Paloma, and Tonya Mon-Fri, 7-8pm. They truly know how to rock a class!)

I must say, the gym has some top-notch equipment, but I couldn't help but notice that the personal trainers come across as rather arrogant and rude, almost bordering on being discriminatory. This really put a damper on my overall experience.
Alice Bailey (5/4/25, 10:55 AM):
The gym is quite tidy and well-kept, I must say. However, the only thing holding me back from giving it a 5-star rating is the music selection. It's a bit disappointing when the nearby Wegmans grocery store has a better playlist than the local gym. The overall environment is good with plenty of space. It would be great if the staff could take control of the music instead of it being chosen by corporate. Cheers!
Alice Ward (5/4/25, 7:46 AM):
Aye, there be plenty o' gear at this gym, all kept right tidy without that funky smell. It's not usually too crowded neither. But here's the rub - they've only got one sauna, and it's mixed, unlike the other LA Fitness joints I've visited. And let me tell ya, that sauna is always packed to the brim.
Andrew Foster (4/30/25, 11:22 PM):
This LA fitness location in PG County is truly top-notch. It boasts cleanliness, attentive staff and personal trainers, courteous members, and let's not forget the fantastic green turf! The overall vibe is just superb.
Zoey Adams (4/30/25, 4:02 AM):
Sean has always provided top-notch customer service to both me and my husband. He helped me switch to a membership that better suits my family's current needs.
Diane Jenkins (4/29/25, 5:00 PM):
In general, this gym is just about average. I’m not exactly sure what kind of gyms the individuals who give it 5 stars have visited, but this one falls in the middle. The staff can be friendly or a bit distant, and at times it can be unclear whether they've checked you in because they just glance at you without saying anything. The locker rooms are generally pleasant and clean. The upstairs cardio/multipurpose section is quite tidy and offers an abundance of cardio machines. However, the weight area is consistently untidy. Members don’t put weights back in their proper place, leading to disorganization. It’s often challenging to discern which spots are available because weights are left on bars at squat racks/bench presses. There aren’t many people wiping down equipment after use. The gym tends to get packed during the peak hours of 4-7, making it difficult to find space to work out.
I suppose for the location, it’s an adequate spot to exercise, but with more attention to the weights area, it could be greatly improved.
Gregory Anderson (4/29/25, 4:24 PM):
I recently made my way to the basketball court at the gym, only to find it occupied by a full-court game. It was quite disappointing as I had hoped to simply shoot some hoops for a good workout. La Fitness doesn't seem to have any specific rules against playing full-court games, which can be frustrating for members like me who just want to practice in peace. With six hoops available, it would be considerate to allow half-court games, leaving the other half for those looking for a more casual experience. Perhaps they could even designate certain hours for free play, catering to guests who prefer not to engage in competitive matches. Another concern was the lack of sanitation measures in place - I wasn't given any guidance on cleaning the equipment before or after use.
Bobby Butler (4/28/25, 11:19 AM):
I was visiting family in Bowie for a few days and decided to check out this LA Fitness location since I'm already a member in NJ. I experienced some issues during check-in, but Sean was quick to step in and help me out. He was incredibly friendly and ensured that I was well taken care of. The facility itself was top-notch, and the staff were fantastic. A truly exceptional experience overall.
Aaron Watson (4/24/25, 9:14 AM):
Fantastic classes, spacious and spotless gym facility, and a welcoming team.
Henry Gutierrez (4/23/25, 5:22 PM):
The lavatories were absolutely dreadful. Filthy flooring, grimy showers, malfunctioning shorts dryer, non-functional steam room, and I happened to encounter a cockroach in a bathroom stall. Absolutely revolting!!! And naturally, there were no towels or massage chairs available. Planet Fitness really ought to consider incorporating a hot tub and sauna into their facilities if they wish to outshine the competition.
Barbara Johnson (4/22/25, 9:12 AM):
Fantastic gym. I must say, the steam room being out of order is a bit of a downer, but apart from that, this place is top-notch. If the steam room was working, I would be here every day without fail. Definitely one of the best gyms in LA, in my opinion! 🌟🏋️♂️
Harper Stewart (4/22/25, 7:47 AM):
I absolutely adore this gym as it's conveniently located near my abode, but it's rather vexing that I must dismount 10-45lbs weights from the leg machine before commencing my workout. How aggravating! It would be splendid if they implemented a protocol to ensure heavy weights are removed from the machines. 🏋️♂️🙄
